New Poll: Will H.R. 3 (Funding for Abortion) Pass?
Summary from Open Congress:
This bill would expand the existing Hyde amendment restrictions on the use of federal funds for abortions by prohibiting even indirect funding streams that may potentially come in contact with abortion services. For example, it would deny tax credits to companies that offer health plans that cover abortions and it would block anybody with insurance that covers abortions from receiving federal subsidies, even if the abortion portion is paid separately with personal funds. As currently written, it would also redefine rape for the purpose of exempting resulting abortions from the federal funding restrictions as “forcible rape.” It would also limit the incest exemption to cases where the women is a minor.
Sponsored by Christopher Smith (R-NJ), the bill was introduced on January 20, 2011 and currently has 173 co-sponsors.

The bill aims to repeal the 1099 reporting requirements placed on small businesses by the healthcare reform law. Sec. 1099 of the health reform bill requires companies to report payments to vendors over $600. It is sponsored by Rep. Daniel Lungren (R-CA) and was introduced on January 12, 2011.

CNN Poll: Obama Presidency a Success or Failure?
“As President Barack Obama marks two years in office, a new national poll indicates that Americans are divided over whether his presidency has so far been a success or failure.
According to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey, 45 percent say the first two years of the Obama administration have been a success, with 48 percent describing it as a failure. The poll’s Thursday release comes on the second anniversary of the inauguration of Obama as president. Full results (pdf)
“The generation gap that surfaced in the 2008 election persists two years later,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “Most people who are 50 or older say that Obama has been a failure in office; a plurality of younger Americans think his administration has been a success.”
Last year, on Obama’s first anniversary in the White House, CNN polling indicated the public was also split, with 47 percent saying the Obama presidency was a success and 48 percent terming it a failure.”
In the poll, Obama’s job-approval rating stands at 53 percent, which is an eight-point jump from last month and represents his highest rating in the survey since July 2009.
The improvement for Obama was across the board: Approval among independents moved from 35 percent in December to 46 percent now; among Democrats, it went from 76 percent to 86 percent; and among Republicans, it went from 11 percent to 15 percent.

Republicans have now been in control of the House for less than two weeks, but the survey suggests an abbreviated honeymoon for the GOP.
Just 25 percent say that the Republicans in Congress will bring “the right kind of change” to the country.
